The Role

This position will be focused on sourcing for Pipeline & Community Recruiting.  It is a unique, travel-focused recruiting role at Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS). Unlike traditional recruiting positions centered on requisition management and career fairs, this role is responsible for proactively building and sustaining long-term talent pipelines through direct, ongoing engagement with regional community colleges, technical schools, and workforce development partners. The ideal candidate will develop trusted relationships with faculty, administrators, and students to ensure a steady flow of skilled talent aligned with NNS workforce needs.   60 to 70% travel is possible, consisting of mostly day trips with some overnight out of state travel required.

This role plays a critical part in identifying, cultivating, and converting higher-experience and advanced-skill candidates emerging from technical programs, continuing education pathways, and incumbent worker upskilling initiatives. By maintaining a consistent presence within these institutions, the recruiter ensures NNS has access to talent that can enter the workforce with stronger foundational skills, reduced time-to-proficiency, and greater long-term retention potential.

A successful candidate will be a highly self-motivated individual capable of independently initiating contact with new partners,  building and maintaining relationships, and rigorously tracking outreach activity, contacts, applicants, and hires.

Conducts interviews to recruit prospective employees and refers job applicants to specific job openings. Evaluates employment factors such as job experience, education and training, skills, knowledge and abilities, physical and personal qualifications, and other data pertinent to classification, selection, and referral. Prepares rating on applicants, makes recommendations on starting salaries, and provides applicants with information on the company. May administer tests and interpret results, check references, arrange transportation of selected applicants, extend formal job offers, work with outside agencies and vendors, etc.
