Design, develop, and test operating systems-level software, compilers, and network distribution software. Set operational specifications, and formulate and analyze software requirements. May design embedded systems software.

Newport News Shipbuilding’s Business Transformation and Technology team is seeking to hire an experienced and motivated senior software engineer as a Solutions Architect who possesses a unique balance of technical depth and strong interpersonal skills, with a special blend of Virtual Reality and Mixed Reality solution development, with DevOps Engineering and Cloud Development experience; strong technical acumen, and a demonstrated ability to galvanize a team around a sense of shared purpose to deliver a superior product. We are looking for candidates that demonstrate the ability to think strategically, create technical definitions around customer objectives in complex situations, develop solution strategies, motivate and mobilize resources, as well as deliver results.

The Solutions Architect will report directly to the IT Manager 3 of the Digital Capabilities Lab (Dogfish Labs). 

As a Solutions Architect, you will be responsible for creating an environment that enables innovation and creative problem solving across multiple technical disciplines. Responsible for maturing new solutions and transitioning proven solutions into production. Responsible for driving the execution for building out scalable and highly resilient solutions within set budgets and schedules.

The Solutions Architect will partner with customers, product delivery managers, software engineers, and product teams to craft scalable, flexible and resilient architectures that address customer business problems and accelerate the adoption of our new solutions. The Solutions Architect will help understand best practices around platform integration.

We seek a Solutions Architect that is passionate about enabling mixed reality innovation through continuous deployment in DevOps with technologies like Unity3D, .Net, .Net Core, C#, NUnit, xUnit, HTML, CSS, Javascript, Typescript, Angular, GIT, Azure DevOps pipeline creation, REST APIs, OData, Microsoft SQL Server, Bash Scripting, Docker containers, OIDC/ Oauth 2.0, RKE2, K8s, Microservices architectures and implementing big data analytics.  

Candidates will also be proficient in use of head-mounted hardware such as Microsoft Hololens, Oculus Quest, Vive Focus, etc.  Knowledge of MDM solution software in regards to managing devices is a plus.

Preference will be shown to candidates who can demonstrate an ability to work at a strategic and tactical level to maximize business value through team output of new and integrated solutions. The Solutions Architect will be responsible for growing the adoption of XR/VR culture within the NNS environment. Must be able to coach and develop a team of solutions engineers, application developers, and designers with great technical skills, characteristics, and team fit.
 

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of experience. Master's Degree and 7 years of experience. Ph.D. and 4 years of experience. 4 years of related exempt experience can be substituted for Bachelor's degree. 8 years of non-related exempt experience can be substituted for Bachelor's degree. A relevant professional certification can be substituted for a Bachelor's Degree.

Proven success as a technical leader
•    Proven experience as a Senior Software Engineer
•    Extensive experience in software development, and leading teams/projects Analytical mind with problem-solving aptitude
•    A solid foundation in technology and software development allowing you to challenge the team, suggest technical alternatives, and recognize excellence
•    Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to business audiences, and explain business processes, concepts, challenges, and issues to technical resources
•    Support collaborative documentation both inline and as a wiki library
•    Experience with VR and XR application development
•    Experience with product development and lifecycle support
•    Experience with deploying VR and XR applications
•    Excellent organizational and leadership skills
•    Experience with DevOps
