The Role

This position is in the Ship Survivability Department.  The successful applicant will join our Recoverability Team and provide technical evaluation for systems onboard aircraft carriers and submarines.  The successful applicant should have technical knowledge in naval ship survivability.  This position will involve resolving complex issues that require ingenuity and creativity. Typical responsibilities include, review and evaluate change proposals for ship and system impacts. Develop engineering products and make updates related to planned changes. Support concept designs for improved Recoverability of new ship designs.

 

Provides technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks. Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data, such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes. Produces engineering documentation, reports, drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics). Performs detailed mathematical calculations using established formulas; preliminary analyses of data where guidelines are provided in such areas as trajectory adequacy, model dimensional consistency; and quantitative judgments concerning technical data. Uses personal computer in performance of analyses and development of documentation/reports. May conduct tests and record data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis.

Must Have

Associate's Degree and 6 years of relevant experience.

One of the following may be used as equivalent to Associate's Degree to meet minimum qualifications:

  • NNS Apprentice School graduate.

  • Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate.

  • High School/GED and 2 years of related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience.

  • High School/GED and 4 years of non-related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience.

Nice to Have

Held a US Navy or US Coast Guard Engineering rating, such as Damage Controlman, Electrician’s Mate, Engineman, Gas Turbine Specialist, Hull Maintenance Technician, Machinist’s Mate, or Machinery Repairman.  Will have working knowledge in the following areas:

  • Firefighting and shipboard damage control experience.

  • Basic understanding of principles of naval engineering.

  • Ship system performance.

  • Shipboard power generation and distribution.

  • Ship system operational and maintenance background.

  • Shipboard casualty control of vital equipment and systems.

  • Current damage control processes used on Navy ships.

  • Experience with Maritime Shipboard Training Teams: Damage Control Training Team (DCTT), Engineering Training Team (ETT), Integrated Training Team (ITT), etc.

  • Desired Navy Enlisted Classification (NEC)/Legacy NECs: U46A/4811, U57A, U15A/4202, U07A/4136, U16A/4206.

  • Program/project management experience.

 

Additional capabilities:

  • Excellent communication, both written and verbal.

  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills.

  • Proficiency with MS Office, including Word, Excel, and Access.

  • Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team.

  • Comfortable working in a 3D modeling environment.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.

  • Creativity in seeking design resolutions.
