Job Description

Design, develop, and test operating systems-level software, compilers, and network distribution software. Set operational specifications, and formulate and analyze software requirements. May design embedded systems software.

Newport News Shipbuilding, division of Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII-NNS) is seeking an iDS (Integrated Digital Shipbuilding) Delivery Lead that has functional/configuration/customization knowledge of SAP PP/PS/PEO modules.  We are looking for a seasoned Software Engineer interested in designing and building information systems to support construction of some of the largest and most complex products in the world.  Our IT systems process information across Engineering, Planning, Operations and Manufacturing.  We are the sole designer and builder of U.S. Navy Aircraft Carriers and one of two providers of U.S. Navy Submarines.

Delivery Lead Job Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate on feature design ensuring that the technical perspective is considered
  • Support Product Team with any technical questions during feature development
  • Advise for any RIDAs (Risks, Impediments, Dependencies, Assumptions)
  • Work with software development teams to deliver features that are crafted with a technical understanding of the solution
  • Lead implementation of Continuous Delivery capabilities working with SAP PP/PS software development teams and lead the charge towards building high quality software quickly 
  • Understand and communicate the benefits, principles, and capabilities of Continuous Delivery
  • Implement Continuous Delivery capabilities alongside delivery teams
  • Relentlessly pursue continuous improvement resulting in increased deployment frequency, reduced lead times, shortened time to restore service, and lower change fail rates
  • Improve team technical capabilities and skills ensuring that a continuous learning culture is cultivated and practiced by the technical teams
  • Participate in and/or lead Pairing and Ensemble Working sessions at least once per iteration
  • Work with the team to design and develop complex RICEF objects for SAP modules and functions
  • Enhance and/or extend core SAP transactions, apps, features and functionality to enable business capability
  • Research, understand, application, and testing of OSS notes 
  • Create opportunities and spaces to share information
  • Set aside time for focused free-thinking and exploration of side projects
  • Advocate for usage of training budget (working with management)

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of experience.  Master's Degree and 7 years of experience. Ph.D. and 4 years of experience. 4 years of related exempt experience can be substituted for Bachelor's degree. 8 years of non-related exempt experience can be substituted for Bachelor's degree. A relevant professional certification can be substituted for a Bachelor's Degree.


Preferred Qualifications

Critical Skills Entering Position:
•    Experience working in agile software development or SAFe
•    Experience with SAP/ABAP enhancements, conversion programs, SAPscript, and SmartForms, Screen Painter BDC, LSMW, User Exits, Menu Exits, Function Exit, Screen Exit, ALV Reports, Dialog Programming, Data Dictionary, RFC, ABAP Query, ALE, BAPI, and BADI, CDS Views, oDATA Services
•    Demonstrated performance under high pressure situations

Preferred Experience Entering Position:
•    Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment experience in the SAP space
•    In-depth understanding of SAP PP/PS Modules and interfaces 
•    SAP PP/PS Modules, PEO a bonus, S4/HANA
•    TDD (Test Driven Development), Object Oriented Programming, and ABAP Unit Testing
•    Principles and techniques of systems analysis, design, and testing 
•    Principles of program documentation 
•    Principles of report, screen, and form design 
•    New trends in the field of information technology
•    Extensive business process and functional knowledge 
•    Understanding of multi-system interfaces
•    Demonstrated  proactive technical leadership of IT implementations
•    Demonstrated leadership and facilitation skills 
•    Demonstrated use of the Systems Development Life Cycle process and/or experience with agile development 
•    Experience with Automated Testing tools, such as Worksoft, is a plus
