Job Description

Newport News Shipbuilding is offering summer internships which allow students to gain experienced in craftsman positions and provide the opportunity to possibly gain full time employment.  Most waterfront positions may require the ability to physically access a wide variety of work sites, including those aboard ships under various stages of construction and overhaul, including the use of vertical and inclined ladders, and may involve limited kneeling, stooping, climbing, standing etc. The recruitment and selection is based upon bona fide business-related  requirements without discrimination based on race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability.**  All applicants must ensure the information below is provided when apply to summer intern program.  Applicants may de disqualified if all information required has not been provided.

Basic Qualifications

  1. Be at least 18 years old at start of program and must be a US Citizen
  2. Be enrolled in associate degree or equivalent program that supports the company's shipyard industry (Electrician, Fitter, Machinist, Metal fabrication, Rigger, Pipefitter, Coatings/Paint)

Typically in the following areas Electronics/Electrical Technology Welding Technology, Precision Machining Technology, Building Construction, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing Technology 

  1. Currently attending 2 year community college or trade school pursuing a Associates Degree or Certification
  2. Should of already completed 1 year of the program and have a pending graduation/completion date of Spring 2023
  3. Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (official transcripts will be required)
  4. Attend the community college/trade school following the internship 
  5. Successfully complete a criminal investigation, physical, physical abilities test and hair sample drug screen 
  6. Work a 40 hour a week for a minimum of 10 weeks during the summer from Monday May 23, 2022 through Friday July 29, 2022
  7. Be available to work on either 1st ( 7am-330pm) or 2nd (330pm-Midnight) shift
