Determines systems specifications, input/output processes, and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility and maintainance of system security. Coordinates design of subsystems and integration of total system. Identifies, analyzes, and resolves program support deficiencies. Develops and recommends corrective actions. May provide technical guidance for database administrators and software developers.

Newport News Shipbuilding’s Technical Architecture Team is seeking an architect with a unique blend of problem solving, leadership and process development experience. We are looking for someone with equal commitment to technical excellence and establishment of a robust architecture practice, someone who is seeking to grow with an evolving team of Technical Architects and help NNS realize the benefits of this capability. As the member of the Technical Architecture Team, you will play an important role in the development and application of our companies technical architecture practice.

Specifically you will:
Defines the principles, which guide technology decisions for the enterprise.
Contributes to the implementation of an application and infrastructure architecture based on business requirements and IT strategies, as well as to rectify gaps and pain points within the current state.
Analyzes the current technology environment to detect critical deficiencies and recommend solutions for improvement.
Assesses the capacity and resource utilization of application and search tools, components, network, application platforms, application/integration/database servers, storage, security and management hardware and software.
Approves and modifies the enterprise designs and architectures by reviewing end-user topology, security, performance, and interoperability requirements.
Designs, leads, and oversees the implementation of a technical architecture based on business requirements and IT strategies, as well as to rectify gaps and pain points within the current state.
Facilitates the evaluation and selection of hardware and software technology and product standards, as well as the design of standard configurations.
Leads analysis of technology industry and market trends to determine their potential impact on the enterprise architecture.
Aligns architectural strategy with business requirements.
 Supports and participates in developing policies, standards, guidelines and procedures.
Designs standard configurations and patterns.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelors Degree and 9 years of experience. Masters Degree and 7 years of experience. Ph.D. and 4 years of experience. 4 years of related exempt experience can be substituted for Bachelors degree. 8 years of non-related exempt experience can be substituted for Bachelors degree.

Preferred Qualifications

Strong written and verbal communication skills
Experience developing architectural products using enterprise architecture toolsets
Demonstrated experience with TOGAF
Prior experience serving as a senior solution, technical or enterprise architect
Strong experience in developing arhcitecture practices 
Strong technical leadership skills
