The Role
Ingalls Shipbuilding offers internships which allow students to gain experience in technical or administrative positions and provide the opportunity to possibly gain future full time employment.
Some engineering, technical, and waterfront positions may require the ability to physically access a wide variety of work sites, including those aboard ships under various stages of construction or overhaul, including the use of vertical and inclined ladders, and may involve limited kneeling, stooping, standing, etc.

Leave of Absence supports the HR team in administering family and medical employee leaves. This role provides administrative and clerical assistance while gaining hands-on experience in leave compliance, documentation management, and employee communications. The intern works under direct supervision and does not independently manage complex leave cases.
Key Responsibilities
• Assist with intake of leave requests and documentation.
• Track and update leave cases in HRIS and case management systems.
• Prepare template correspondence and routine leave notices under supervision.
• Monitor shared HR inbox and route inquiries appropriately.
• Maintain accurate and confidential employee records.
• Help audit files to ensure required documentation is complete.
• Support compliance reporting and basic data tracking (FMLA, ADA, etc.).
• Assist with updating job aids, FAQs, and internal process documents.
• Provide administrative support for return-to-work documentation processing.
• Participate in team meetings and training related to leave administration.

Must Have
1. Be at least 18 years of age before the start of the summer intern program (Mid-May)
2. Be enrolled in a degreed program that supports the company’s business requirements. Typically in the following areas: • Engineering • Business • Finance • Information Technology
3. Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (Most recent college transcripts will be required and must be uploaded in the system at the time of application)
4. Attend a college/university (undergraduate or graduate program) in the fall following the internship
5. Successfully complete a criminal background investigation, physical and a hair follicle drug screen
6. Work a 40-hour work week for a minimum of 10 weeks during the summer.

Nice to Have
• Able to work year-round Monday-Friday, 7:30 A.M. - 3:30 P.M on-site in Pascagoula.
• Currently pursuing a degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• High attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
