The Role
Calibrates electronic test measuring equipment and signal generating equipment to conform to set standards. Tests, calibrates, adjusts, and maintains electromechanical, mechanical, optical, pneumatic, hydro mechanical, and pressure-type measuring and indicating instruments. Sets up calibration sequences, methods and procedures according to detailed specifications, blueprints, drawings, and requirements. Disassembles, cleans, repairs, and replaces defective parts of test equipment such as pressure gauges and tension meters. May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.
· Calibrates test and measuing equipment by comparison to standards that are traceable
to national standards.
· Performs adjustments/repairs as necessary to bring equipment back to original
specifications.
· Provides initial out-of-tolerance information so that impact on product quality can be
analyzed.
· Detects and reports deficiencies in calibration procedures and/or methods.
· Assists crafts in test equipment usage problems when required.
· Assists in developing calibration procedures on new equipment.
· Initiates parts requests for instrument repairs.
· Maintain an accurate records and recall system for calibrateable equipment and for
processing and statusing of both company owned and ship deliverable test equipment
and test tools.
· Process and transport when necessary, test equipment to local laboratories for
calibration servicing.
· Process equipment submitted by outside customers that have contracted for Ingalls
Shipbuilding calibration services.
· Implement and maintain a computerized recall program for the retrieval of instruments
due for calibration.
· Distribute recall notices and/or overdue notices using department Calibration
Coordinators and monitor the return of delinquent equipment.
· Provide productivity/inventory reports as needed.
· Transport equipment between labs as necessary.
· Other tasks as assigned by the Supervisor.
Must Have
Associate's degree or other 2 year technical degree in related discipline and 1 year experience.
Nice to Have
Formal training in metrology (military or college) and/or a B.S. in Electronics Engineering Technology or other related fields. Two (2) years experience in a major metrology laboratory with extensive trouble shooting and repair background a must. Strong background in math, algebra, and trigonometry and a working knowledge of computers using word processing and spreadsheet programs. Working knowledge of physics. Knowledgeable of electrostatic discharge protective measures for sensitive electronic components.
