The Role

Researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines.

Researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical systems such as thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy.

Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.

Analyzes, researches, and develops manufacturing/technology solutions for various processes for Shipbuilding Operations. Performs as Technical Lead on various Research and Development efforts to accomplish technology insertion. 

Must Have

Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited university and 5 years of experience

Master of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited university and 3 years of experience

-or

PHD in Engineering from an ABET accredited university and 0 year of experience

Nice to Have

Shipbuilding experience and clear understanding of US Navy vessels and requirements;  Project Management experience; Strong presentation skills;  Experience with Machine Learning Algorithm development and Python Programming, along with associated Data Analytic skills specific to process automation;  Proficient knowledge of and ability to navigate Femap and Abaqus software, along with similar tools for structural FEA analyses; Ability to develop and manage to budgets and schedules of individual Project tasks; Strong critical thinking skills; ability to “think outside the box” to develop innovative solutions to problem statements; Proficient understanding of shipbuilding processes; Self-starter and motivated to problem-solve with ability to manage projects with little supervision from manager;  

Comfortable working alone but also in a team environment where cross collaboration is critical to task execution.
