The Role

Researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.  Mechanical Engineer 4 for the shock and vibration engineering group.  Represents the organization as the prime technical contact for the qualification of Critical Material items.  Represents the organization as the on-site technical POC for shock and vibration testing of Critical Material items.  Interacts with senior external personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations, including the Navy.  Responsible for review of vendor data submittals and resolution of technical issues.  Reviews internal products created by the shock and vibration engineering group (CDRLs, Ingalls Comments, Presentations, etc.) for technical accuracy prior to submittal.  Provides technical guidance to engineers in the shock and vibration engineering group on work performed in order to increase first time quality.  Provides technical input to support the Ingalls DAA activity, to include the annual DAA audit and Shock Steering Committee Meetings as necessary.  Responsible for review of shock and vibration type I test procedures and resolution of technical issues in order to meet testing schedules and in-yard need dates for vendor equipment.  

Must Have

9 Years with Bachelor of Science degree in related field from an ABET accredited school of engineering; OR 7 years of relevant professional experience with a Master's Degree;OR 4 years of relevant professional experience with a PhD. Must be a current employee of Ingalls Shipbuilding.

Nice to Have

Secret security clearance or ability to obtain a Secret clearance preferred. Proficient in Microsoft Office products, Femap and Nastran analysis software. Ability to present technical information both verbally and in writing in a clear and professional manner.
