The Role

Designs major components or major portions of a functional system to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Develops basic data and makes preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposal. Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replace ability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost. Coordinates with other organizations affected by design development. Makes layouts of complex assemblies and details parts of devices, mechanisms, and structures. Checks completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning. Identifies design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommends revisions and/or improvements in design layout to responsible engineers or designers.

Must Have

9 Years with Bachelor of Science degree in related field; 7 years of relevant professional experience with a Master's Degree; 4 years of relevant professional experience with a PhD. OR HS/GED with 15yrs of relevant experience.

Nice to Have

The ideal candidate will have experience establishing, overseeing, and managing all activities related to specific shipboard systems including the following:  Research, development, and design of electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks in accordance with all contractual  requirements, military and commercial specifications; initiate procurement specifications; review and approve vendor proposals; review, comment on, adjudicate and approve vendor furnished information for translation into construction products; interface with vendors and Navy technical representatives in technical working groups; support vendor design reviews and testing; develop drawings and other documents IAW Mil-Specs and contract drawings; interface with other disciplines and departments to ensure a seamless integration of assigned systems into the shipboard environment; address and resolve technical issues, and make decisions on problems in his/her area of responsibility; support shipbuilding production department as required. In addition, the candidate should have extensive technical expertise with all programs in the Electromagnetic Interferance qualification and shipboard mitigation, Electromagnetic Pulse design, Bonding and Grounding requirments and design, TEMPEST certification, InterModulation Interference mitigation, Pulse Current Injection testing requirments and technical detail to include statistical analysis. An understanding of other related disciplines is also necessary to support C4ISR, Controls, and Power. The candidate should also communicate effectively and be able to clearly present technical approaches and findings, develop solutions to complex technical problems, work without appreciable direction, represent the organization as the prime technical contact on contracts and projects, and be proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office applications.
