The Role

Supervises, assigns, coordinates and evaluates semi-skilled and skilled trades personnel according to their skill, experience and job knowledge.  Supervises and trains employees to improve quality and quantity of work performed.  Recommends training to enhance skill and productivity of employees, and assists in development of training procedures. Breaks broad strategies down to practical action plans and ensures employees are trained to perform these plans.  Responsible for complying with all technical aspects of the job including adherence to all drawings, procedures, etc.  Responsible for manufacturing, installation, operation, testing, and process operations that have a significant financial impact on the company's performance.  Supervises qualified trades staff; monitoring job and budget performance for all shifts.

 

The Test & Trials General Superintendent is responsible for oversight of propulsion, auxiliary systems, deck gear, weapons handling, and damage control testing across assigned contracts. This role provides technical and administrative leadership for all test procedures, command media instructions, critical processes, and major vendor test documentation to ensure testing is conducted safely, efficiently, and in accordance with program requirements.Essential Job Responsibilities• Reports to and coordinates testing activities with the General Superintendent of Test & Trials/Trial Activation to ensure alignment of priorities, resources, and schedule objectives.• Oversees all dockside testing and ensures completion of required tests prior to sea trials for all shipboard equipment.• Directs the recording, authentication, and maintenance of test data. Supports Quality Assurance in the certification and verification of test completions.• Anticipates and resolves complex strategic and operational issues through sound judgment, technical expertise, and proactive planning.• Determines required manpower, skill sets, equipment, special resources, and budget needs. Evaluates performance relative to schedules, budgets, and quality standards.• Implements corrective actions to meet cost, schedule, and quality commitments.• Provides leadership in the application of Quality Plan requirements and promotes continuous improvement to reduce, eliminate, and prevent quality deficiencies.• Performs additional related duties as assigned to support program and organizational goals.

Additional common management responsibilities as listed in Shipbuilding Management Charter 0001 within command media (SBMC 0001) and applicants should review the Charter and policies and procedures before applying for position.

Must Have

High School Diploma and 10 years of experience with 4 years in a craft management role.

Must be willing and able to work any shift assigned.

Nice to Have

Demonstrated waterfront/shipyard experience, with solid knowledge of all phases of ship construction and repair. • Strong understanding of ship distributive systems and familiarity with regulatory requirements, repair procedures, test procedures, and applicable company standards. • Ability to develop accurate budget estimates, build logical project schedules, and manage work progression effectively. • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project. • Proven leadership skills, with the ability to motivate teams and collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization. • Prior hands-on experience with the systems, processes, and operational environments listed above.
