Job Description

An Ingalls Shipfitter, also referred to as a Journeyman Shipfitter or a Boilermaker, is responsible for various tools and equipment used in the fabrication, assembling and erection of metal components at the various stages in constructing a marine vessel. Ingalls shipyard production areas at times involve working at different heights, confined spaces, different weather conditions as well as multiple shifts 24 hours a day. As with most every position in the shipyard, a Shipfitter may be required to work either day or night dependent upon the number of ships under construction at any one point in time. Ingalls stresses the practice of working safely in all situations, with safety procedures meeting, and most times, exceeding industry standards.

Basic Qualifications

  • We are looking for individuals with prior experience in carpentry, construction,  welding, structural fitting, or automotive body repair interested in a career at Ingalls Shipbuilding as a ship fitter. 
  • Also if you have completed a community college or high school carpentry, construction, fitting or welding programs we would like to talk to you.
