The Role
The Human Resources Business Partner 4 (HRBP 4) serves as a trusted advisor and strategic consultant to assigned departments and functional leaders at Ingalls Shipbuilding. This senior-level HR professional provides guidance and partnership in the areas of organizational effectiveness, talent management, employee engagement, and compliance. The HRBP 4 collaborates closely with all levels of leadership to align people strategies with business objectives while ensuring consistent application of company policies, procedures, and federal and state regulations.
Key Responsibilities
• Partner with department and functional leaders to understand business priorities and develop human resources strategies that support operational excellence and workforce readiness.
• Provide expert consultation on organizational design, workforce planning, employee relations, talent development, and performance management.
• Collaborate with leaders to identify and address talent gaps, succession needs, and leadership development opportunities.
• Drive initiatives that enhance employee engagement, retention, and overall culture within assigned organizations.
• Ensure compliance with company policies and applicable employment laws; proactively identify and mitigate risk.
• Coach and advise leaders on effective people management practices, providing insight that supports both short- and long-term business goals.
• Partner with HR Centers of Excellence (COEs)—including Talent Acquisition, Compensation, Talent Management, and Ethics & Compliance—to deliver cohesive and integrated HR solutions.
• Serve as a key HR liaison for special projects, reorganizations, and change management initiatives.
• Maintain effective communication and alignment with HR peers and the HR leadership team to ensure consistency and collaboration across the function.
Note: This position supports non-represented (non-union) employee populations. Labor Relations maintains responsibility for represented workforce matters.
Must Have
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field with 10 years of progressive experience in human resources or related field. Master’s degree and 8 years.
Nice to Have
PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP certification preferred.
