The Role

Researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines. Researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical systems such as thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines. Apply advanced technical principles, theories, and concepts. Contributes to the development of new principles and concepts.  Work on unusually complex technical problems and provide solutions which are highly innovative and ingenious. Works under consultative direction toward predetermined long-range goals and objectives. Assignments are often self-initiated. Determine and pursue courses of action necessary to obtain desired results. Work checked through consultation and agreement with others rather than by formal review of superior. Develops advanced technological ideas and guides their development into a final product. Erroneous decisions or recommendations would typically result in failure to achieve critical organizational objectives and affect the image of the organization technological capability. Serves as organization spokesperson on advanced projects and/or programs. Acts as advisor to management and customers on advanced technical research studies and applications.

Must Have

Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited university and 14 years of experience

Master of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited university and 12 years of experience

PHD in Engineering from an ABET accredited university and 9 year of experience

Nice to Have

Possesses senior level expertise regarding HVAC Systems design and test.  Overall recognized Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the HVAC field capable of significant Navy customer interaction and support to senior Engineering leadership and a recognized sourse for technical guidance.  Detailed knowledge of LHA8, DDG and LPD Ship Spec Section 512 performance requirements.  History of previous US Navy HVAC systems, performance, and technical challenges a plus. Experience submitting RCIA's to the Navy for resolution of contractual issues.  Submit hardware and software CDRLs to the Navy for approval.  Experience with shipboard system balancing and testing preferred.  Experience writing TPRSOWs and evalution of vendor equipment from PO award to the supplier up through delivery of the ship.  Provide technical guidance and direction to engineers across disciplines responsible for interfacing systems.  Provide professional technical mentoring and development for junior engineers.
