With more than 11,000 employees, HII’s Ingalls Shipbuilding division is the largest manufacturing employer in Mississippi and a major contributor to the economic growth of Alabama. For nearly 85 years, we’ve  designed, built and maintained amphibious ships, destroyers, and cutters for the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Coast Guard. The largest supplier of U.S. Navy surface combatants, we’re simultaneously building four classes of ships and have pioneered the development and production of technologically advanced, highly capable ships for the surface Navy fleet for decades. The Role

Craft. Detail. Growth. Advance as a Joiner.
Are you ready to develop your joiner skills while contributing to the construction of the most advanced naval vessels in the world? Ingalls Shipbuilding is seeking Semi‑Skilled Joiners who have hands‑on experience in carpentry, fabrication, or interior installation — and want to continue advancing into higher‑level joiner roles.

As a Semi‑Skilled Joiner, you’ll help fabricate, assemble, install, and repair wood and metal components throughout the ship. Your growing craftsmanship supports the creation of bulkheads, interior finishes, deck structures, furniture installations, and other outfitting items that sailors rely on every day.

If you’re ready to expand your craft at “America’s Shipyard,” a rewarding career at Ingalls Shipbuilding — Mississippi’s largest private employer — is waiting.

What You Can Earn
• Earn up to $28.07 per hour, based on experience and skill level
• Additional opportunities for overtime, advanced training, and progression into Skilled Joiner positions

What You’ll Do
• Assist in fabricating, assembling, installing, and repairing wood and metal bulkheads, interior finishes, and deck structures
• Help mount furniture, racks, bins, partitions, decorative ceilings, false decks, and other outfitting items
• Use hand tools, power tools, measurement devices, and fastening equipment to support layout and installation work
• Read and follow basic drawings, layout instructions, and specifications
• Work in shipboard environments that may include heights, confined spaces, and varying weather conditions
• Support production needs across multiple shifts in a 24/7 manufacturing environment
• Follow Ingalls’ strong safety standards in every task and work area

Why This Work Matters
Joiners help create the interior spaces where sailors live, work, and operate. Semi‑Skilled Joiners are essential in building safe, durable, functional shipboard environments — craftsmanship that supports mission readiness across the fleet.

What You Bring
• Hands‑on experience in carpentry, interior construction, fabrication, or related trades
• Ability to read and follow basic drawings, measurements, and layout instructions
• Skill using common carpentry and fabrication tools
• Strong commitment to safety, craftsmanship, and teamwork
• Willingness to work in an active industrial environment and continue developing your joiner skills

Must Have

Minimum of 6 months experience as a Joiner or related craft experience in shipfitting, carpentry or sheetmetal or completion of a craft specific CTE program and be able to pass the Tacker Certification test.

Nice to Have

High School diploma or equivalent, Master Tech Certification
