Ingalls Shipbuilding is seeking Skilled Sheetmetal Mechanics who are ready to apply their expertise on a large scale and deliver craftsmanship that lasts for decades.
As a Skilled Sheetmetal Mechanic, you’ll fabricate and install a wide variety of sheetmetal components — including ductwork, venting systems, engine exhaust, metal containers, brackets, foundations, and instrumentation panels. Your work shapes the ship’s structure, supports critical systems, and ensures long‑term reliability throughout the fleet.

What You’ll Do
• Fabricate, cut, bend, form, and install sheetmetal components to exact specifications
• Build and install ductwork, venting systems, exhaust systems, metal containers, instrumentation panels, and shipboard structures
• Plan and lay out work from blueprints, drawings, and other specifications using shop mathematics
• Use fabrication tools including brakes, shears, rollers, grinders, drills, layout tools, and measurement equipment
• Verify measurements, maintain accuracy, and ensure all work meets Ingalls craftsmanship and safety standards
• Work in shipyard environments that may involve heights, confined spaces, and varying weather conditions
• Support production across multiple shifts to meet ship construction schedules

What You Bring
• Proven experience in sheetmetal fabrication, layout, and installation
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications
• Skill using metalforming tools and performing shop mathematics
• Strong commitment to precision, safety, and teamwork
• Willingness to work in an active industrial environment supporting ship construction
Must Have
Requires a minimum of 1 Year of sheetmetal experience or related craft experience in joiner, shipfitting, and/or carpentry.
Nice to Have
Prefer candidates with the ability to set up and operate a variety of sheetmetal machines such as brakes and shears, pass a skill assessment test, ability to read marine blueprints, and work from standard and metric specifications.
